The CFLC hosted the 2016 annual meeting of the Fujian Foreign Languages Society (FFLS) and the “One Belt, One Road” Initiative and Fujian Translation Forum on December 9 and 10. The events were jointly organized by the FFLS and the Fujian Translators Association (FTA).
The FFLS annual meeting opened on the morning of December 10 with a welcome speech by CFLC dean Prof. Zhang Longhai. XMU Assistant to the President, Zhang Jianlin, and FTA Secretary-General Shen Ziling, both spoke during the opening ceremony. FFLS President Yang Xinzhang presented a report on the Society’s academic work.
The events brought together more than 180 scholars and graduatestudents from around the province, as well as delegates from Tsinghua University Press, Foreign Language Teaching and Research Press, Shanghai Foreign Language Education Press, and Fudan University.
The participants presented a total of approximately 120 papers on topics in linguistics, literature, foreign language teaching, translation, and cross-cultural studies.
The keynote speech was presented by Professor Zhuang Guotu of the XMU School of International Relations. He shared his insights into the role of Fujian in China’s “One Belt, One Road” Initiative and the mission of translators.
The speech was followed by presentations by Prof. Zhang Xu of the Fujian University of Technology, renowned translator Wu Guozhen, Prof. Xie Zhaoqun of Fujian Normal University, and Prof. Mao Haoran of Huaqiao University.
On the afternoon of the second day, thirty of the papers presented to the meeting were rated as “excellent” and were discussed among in five groups. Their authors each received a reward.
