CFLC Hosts Forum on Linguistics Research

On March 25-26, CFLC successfully hosted the Forum on Linguistics Research: Function, Application, and Cognition. The forum marked a significant event in the college’s New Century Series of High-level Academic Forums. Jointly organized by CFLC and the XMU Institute of Foreign Language and Literature, the forum aimed to expand the academic space for language research and promote collaboration.


The opening ceremony of the forum was chaired by Professor Xin Zhiying, Associate Dean of CFLC. Professor Chen Jing, Dean of CFLC, delivered a warm welcome to the experts and scholars participating in the event, emphasizing the college’s dedication to innovation and future accomplishments. Professor Huang Guowen, Dean of CFLC at South China Agricultural University, also delivered a speech praising CFLC’s achievements and extending his best wishes for its centennial celebration.


During the forum, eight experts from renowned universities delivered keynote speeches on various topics. They discussed challenges and opportunities brought by artificial intelligence to linguistics, the metaphorical nature of the Chinese language, new trends in pragmatics research, and the impact of emotions on language learning. The speeches provided valuable insights into the core principles of linguistics and interdisciplinary developments in the field.


Parallel sessions were held, focusing on functional linguistics, cognitive linguistics, and applied linguistics. Scholars presented their latest research findings and engaged in discussions on topics such as knowledge construction, metaphor, and rhetorical constructions. The sessions facilitated meaningful exchanges and offered directions for future language research.


Additionally, two workshops were conducted, where scholars explored specific research areas such as pragmatic analysis and discourse structure understanding. The workshops provided opportunities for in-depth discussions and the sharing of research outcomes.


The closing ceremony featured a speech by Professor Xu Qi, Party Secretary of CFLC, who expressed gratitude to all the participants and emphasized the college’s commitment to progress and innovation in the next century.


The forum showcased CFLC’s rich disciplinary foundation and promoted international dialogue and collaboration in language research. It served as a platform for scholars to exchange ideas and contribute to the advancement of the field.
