Roundtable Forum Explores Talent Cultivation in Country and Regional Studies at XMU

Xiamen University recently hosted a roundtable forum on talent cultivation in country and regional studies under the “New Liberal Arts” initiative. Organized by the College of Foreign Languages and Cultures (CFLC) and co-hosted by the School of International Relations, the event addressed the growing need for interdisciplinary expertise in global affairs.

Vice President Fang Ying opened the forum by emphasizing the importance of comprehensive regional knowledge in today’s evolving world. CFLC Dean Chen Jing highlighted the college’s role in advancing BRICS studies and international communication, stressing the potential for collaboration between foreign language training and area studies.


Researcher Jiang Feng delivered a keynote on cultivating talent with language proficiency, regional expertise, and research skills, while Professor Xiu Gang discussed integrating foreign language education with fields like political science and digital technology.


A moderated roundtable discussion featuring Professors Fan Jieping, Gao Yanjie, Zhang Miao, and Dai Hongbin explored practical strategies for interdisciplinary collaboration in curriculum design, faculty development, and student training.


The forum fostered meaningful dialogue on advancing Xiamen University’s distinctive approach to country and regional studies, paving the way for future innovation in the field.
